SEPTEMBER 11th
MEMORIAL CLEAN UP

Students and
parent of Chi's Martial Arts joined together in their Civic duty
to help clean up
the Town of
Babylon 911 Memorial. The activity was a great learning
experience for students
and parents
alike. Many of us did not even know that the Town of Babylon had
built such a
wonderful
remembrance to those who lost their lives on that tragic
September morning. If
you have not
seen this memorial you really should take the time to visit and
pay your respects
it is a
beautiful monument and a great opportunity to teach our children
a lesson in history.

VENETIAN SHORES CLEAN UP PROJECT

Spring cleaning at Venetian
Shores and Parks was the challenge of the the day for
parents and students at
Chi's Martial Arts. It was a dirty job but every year it needs
to
done. Residents of the Town
of Babylon expect to to have clean beaches and parks
to bring their children to
in order to enjoy the summer. Our student and parents combed
every area of the park to
make sure that its clean and ready to be enjoyed by all.

Young People Making A
Difference

In a day and
age where our youth are continually bombarded with messages
which promote
mediocrity, it
is always refreshing to learn that some of our young citizens
are striving to
achieve a
higher level of contribution to our society. Christina Conlon is
one such person.
As part of her
Black Belt test Christina was inspired to complete an
extraordinary Act of
Kindness.
In order to make the project meaningful to
her she searched long and hard to
find something that really
spoke to her heart. Finely she found a situation that she was so
touched by that she immediately
took action. What she found was a tragic example of how
good people can experience the
ultimate tragedy at any time and in any place. On May 4, 2006
foreign missionary Matt Baugh,
on his way to meet another missionary, was killed in a traffic
accident in Haiti. Matt was
thirty-seven and is survived by his wife, Shannon, and their
five
children: Andrew (10), Laura
(9), SaraGrace (7), Jessica (5), and Margaret (2), all of whom
have returned to the States
from the mission field to try to re-establish family life here.
It had
become apparent that his wife,
Shannon and their children would need significant help in the
years to come. Although she had
never met any of the Baugh family before the situation touched
her heart and she immediately
began setting up a means to collect funds for the family. Single
handedly Christina collected
over $500 and in doing so demonstrated that one person could
make a difference in this
world.
“We have too many high sounding words, and too
few actions that correspond with them.”

Santa's Helpers Know Karate

This year the Chiarri
family were visited by Chi's Martial Arts as part of the CMA
adopt a
family for Christmas
project. The Chiarri family received 87 Christmas gifts and $259
dollars worth of food cards as
a result of the generous contributions of CMA
members and families. Members
of the CMA Leadership were up early Christmas
morning to personally make
their deliveries as part of commitment to community service
and help other in need.
Santa Visits Chi's Martial Arts

As part of our Christmas
celebration Santa paid a visit to Chi's Martial Arts along
with some of Black Belt elves
in order to take pictures with the students who were
anxiously awaiting his visit to
their houses on Christmas Eve. Santa stayed long
enough to take 206 pictures and
all the money that was collected was donated to
charity. But don't worry if you
missed out, we have been assured by Santa that he
will be back next year.
Super Heroes
Stop by to take Pictures

Halloween proved to be an exciting time at
Chi's Martial Arts as Super heroes dropped in to
take photos with students. All monies
collected for this event went to local charity.
Sifu Chi

Project Based Leadership

Sunday August
20th – Gianni Hunter, a Member of Chi’s Martial Arts
Masters Club,
was given an
assignment by her Master Instructor to find a project which
would help
others. After
searching the internet for hours she finely found a project that
touched
her heart
that she felt passionate about. What Gianni found was that
thousands of
homeless
children must return to school every year without the necessary
school
supplies they
need to start the school year. So she decided that she would do
something
about it. Calling on family members and friends Gianni proceeded
to
collect the
money she needed to purchase the supplies and then placed all
the
items into
backpacks. Recruiting her mom she then dropped the backpacks off
so
that they
could be given to the children in need. But the story does not
stop there,
after hearing
about Gianni’s project many of her friends decided that they
also would
pitch in and
provide supplies for the homeless. By using her leadership
skills and
leading by
example Gianni was able to inspire others to take action.
Financial Self-Defense

Students of
Chi’s Martial Arts received a lesson that most people
would
not normally associate with a martial arts school. On July 29
students
entered the
Commerce bank of Massapequa and opened saving accounts
as part
of their training for a financial Self-Defense program.
National Youth Service Day

Despite the rain and cold Town of Babylon
Supervisor,
Steve Bellone joined together with the students of
Chi’s
Martial Arts at Van Borgandine Park and planted 200
sapling trees in observance of National Youth Service
Day and
Earth Day.

Working with
Groups in our Community

Showing their true colors Brownie Troup 762 and
Junior Troup 80 enjoyed
an educational "Bully Busters" seminar at William Raul
Elementary School. The seminar included topics
on how to deal with bully confrontations in a non-violent way, Having
self-confidence to walk away, asking for help without feeling like a
rat, and the A.B.C's of conflict avoidance. All participants
came away from the seminar with an increased confidence to deal with
the ever growing problem of dealing with bullies in school.
Girl Scouts
Learn Stranger Danger

With there commitment to helping others, girl
scouts can sometimes put themselves at risk. That’s why local
community leader and Master martial arts instructor Charles Chi
has decided to commit his time and efforts to educating our
youth about the dangers that face our kids on a daily basis.
Working With our
Schools

Students From Mrs. Williams Class at Tooker
Elementary School enjoyed a lesson on the A.B.C's of success from
Sifu Chi. Children were taught the importance of using the
techniques of reading and problem solving to accomplish a task. They
were shown the importance of focus and having a good teacher to help
them achieve success in everything they do and were coached on how
to develop confidence to make important decisions in life.

THIS YEAR SANTA WORE A BLACK BELT

Members of Chí’s Martial Arts share a moment
with the Hall Family
December 25th, 2004 – This
Christmas, Theresa and her four children were the recipients of
the Acts of Kindness Program. The Students of Chí’s Martial
Arts in an effort to display the true meaning of Christmas
volunteered to give up their Christmas morning and delivered over
150 gifts to the Hall family. In an effort to teach his own
students the joy of giving to others and to advance the cause of
the Acts of Kindness program, Master Chí reminded all his
students that Christmas was ultimately about giving to others, not
just exchanging gifts but experiencing the true joy of giving
unselfishly to others and not expecting anything in return other
than the joy one feels in their heart when you know you have done
a good thing. Master Chi asked if every student would be willing
to give up just one gift so that the Hall family would be able to
experience the joy of Christmas and the love of their fellow man.
Needless to say every child raised their hand and volunteered to
give up one gift, many of them were willing to give and do much
more.
Theresa Hall and her four children lost their
home to a devastating fire back in May and were forced to live in
a shelter for the last six months. Mrs. Hall wondered what they
would do and how they would survive such a catastrophic event that
consumed virtually everything they owned. By some stroke of luck
she just happened to be looking through the South Bay paper when
she saw a feature on a local Martial Arts instructor and his Acts
of Kindness program. If you remember back in July the management
of South Bay Paper decided to endorse Charles Chí and his Acts of
Kindness program for the betterment of the community. Since then
Master Chí has gained the support of Suffolk County Legislator
David Bishop, State Assemblyman Robert Sweeney and has also had a
resolution passed by the Town of Babylon in support of the
program. Ms. Hall was able to contact Master Chí with the
information provided in the article and he at once went to work
calling support agencies that would be able to provide some relief
for the stress the Hall family was experiencing. Master Chí then
asked Ms. Hall if she would mind if his school adopted her family
for Christmas and provide her and her children with Christmas
gifts. With tears in her eyes she accepted.
Christmas morning Chí’s Martial Arts Leadership team
personally delivered the gifts to the Hall family. Ms. Hall had
not informed her children about what was happening and they were
totally surprised. Master Chí comments, “There wasn’t a dry
eye in the house. Not only was Ms. Hall and her children overjoyed
with the Act of Kindness but our students, experiencing the joy of
giving to others less fortunate themselves, were also brought to
tears.” For many of his students this was the first time that
they were able to experience first hand what it was like to help
someone in need.
"I
am so proud of all my students and their families who supported us
in helping the Hall family I would like to personally thank each
and every one of you for showing what the true meaning of
Christmas is all about. I would like to especially than the
following families for going the extra mile in helping make this
project a success."

Dan Inosanto
Visits
Chí's Martial Arts

Students of Chi's Martial Arts, NuBreed Martial Arts, and
Tristate Martial were treated to a wonderful seminar by martial
arts legend Dan Inosanto. This is the first time Guro Dan has
given a seminar at CMA and will definitely not be the last. Guro
Dan thrilled the participants with a unique blend Jeet Kune Do and
Filipino martial arts as only he can do. This seminar marks the
return of Guro Dan to the Long Island area for the first time in
over 10 years. Student drove to CMA to attend the seminar from as
far away as Pennsylvania and later commented that it was well
worth the drive.

With his usual meticulous detail Guro Dan explains the inner
workings and history behind the arts.

Showing his unselfish and giving character Guro Dan took time
out to autograph pictures and answer questions from the seminar participants.

IT’S ALL ABOUT CHARACTER

Children
of West Gates Elementary School receive a special lesson
Students
of West Gates Elementary School were given a special lesson by
local Martial Arts Instructor Charles Chí. In yet another attempt
to promote his Acts of Kindness Program in the Lindenhurst
community Master Chi volunteered his time to teach our children
about the importance of character and how to deal with bullies.
School principal Lisa Omeis launched a “character counts”
program in West Gates last semester, and as part of that program
the children also learn about how to deal with bullies. Knowing
Master Chí’s commitment the community and his Acts of Kindness
program she contacted him as a guest speaker. Surprisingly Master
Chí did not speak about punching and kicking but rather about how
to deal with bully in a non-violent way by outsmarting them. Students
were taught how to identify different types of bullies and the six
smarts way to resolve conflict peacefully. Master Chí also taught
the students about good character and the importance of having a
positive attitude when facing the many challenges that they would
experience as they grew up. By saying, “Yes I Can” as a
positive affirmation, students were taught that they must always
try their best and never give up. To prove the power of the “Yes
I Can” attitude School principal Lisa Omeis agreed to break a
board as her students shouted “YES I CAN!”
Did she do it? Yes She Did!
