Your Journey Toward Self-Mastery
Many students come to us with hopes of improving their self-confidence and self-esteem, as well as their physical condition. We accomplish this by increasing your strength, flexibility, endurance, focus, and self-control - all qualities that will give you a positive self-image that is accurate and well deserved. You will learn to set and achieve goals-overcoming procrastination and doubt.
You know its necessary. A healthy body is essential for a full, active lifestyle. But how do you possibly increase your strength, flexibility, and endurance in one type of workout? Your time is limited-you lead a "busy life"!.
Jeet Kune Do is a completely integrated fitness formula-developed by Bruce Lee- guaranteeing results-quickly and effectively.
Your Personal Best
You will notice progress immediately. Your muscle tone will improve. Your range of motion will increase and your joints will actually get stronger, helping you to prevent injury. Our well structured classes will make a tremendous difference in your strength and flexibility -safely and effectively.
Physical fitness is not complete without cardio-respiratory conditioning. Your body requires proper respiration for maximum energy and optimum health. Correct breathing, often taken for granted, will revitalize every cell in your body. Increased lung capacity and a stronger heart will efficiently circulate oxygen-rich blood to your entire body.
Your mind needs similar exercise. Your mind's strength is memory. Your mind's flexibility is creativity. Your mind's endurance is its attention span-the ability to focus on one subject for long periods of time. Chí's Martial Arts Training Center develops your mind-your most powerful resource.
The third dimension of complete fitness is the non-quitting spirit-your will power. You will learn to face life's challenges and overcome them-consistently. Your Jeet Kune Do training will provide you with a formula that gives you the technology and confidence to solve your most difficult problems and grow from every experience.
Jeet Kune Do.
Jeet means intercept while Kune means fist and Do means way. Ultimately, Jeet Kune Do means the way of intercepting fist.
Jeet Kune Do was developed and practiced by the late Bruce Lee, has much to offer today's martial artist. No matter the style, build, or personal ability, Jeet Kune Do is a system designed for the human body. This being the case, anyone can benefit from Bruce Lee's teachings.
With Wing Chun at the core of his system, Bruce
Lee incorporated a modification of various techniques from
Northern Praying Mantis, Southern Praying Mantis, Choy Li Fut,
Eagle Claw, Western Boxing, Wrestling, Fencing, Judo, Jiu Jitsu,
and some of the more refined kicks of the Northern & Southern
Chinese styles. Innovative and radically ahead of his time in his
training and teaching methodology, Bruce Lee developed a martial
system and fighting strategy that has lost none of its
effectiveness over time.
Emphasizing the "ranges of combat".
Students are taught to confidently and with ease "flow"
from long distance," kicking- range", to middle distance,
"hand- range", to close quarter, "trapping &
grappling range".
The movements are crisp, and efficient, utilizing
the most direct lines and angles. JKD affords the practitioner a
means by which to effectively pursue the most direct line of
attack. And once an attack has been launched there are no breaks
or interruptions. As one technique nears completion, it starts to
blend into the next and so forth: one continuous flowing motion
until the conflict is resolved.

Karate and Kickboxing teach two forms of self-defense. One is
physical, you will improve your strength, flexibility and
overall health. Additionally, you will learn to strike with
tremendous power and effectiveness. Hopefully you’ll never
need to fight...But should the occasion arise, shouldn’t
everyone know how to protect themselves? The second form of
self-defense Karate teaches is internal. Our students learn to
spot danger and avoid dangerous people, places and activities.
Karate can help you avoid the need for a physical confrontation.
This second form of self-defense is perhaps the most valuable of
the two.
Meditation
Leads to greater Productivity
The
essential qualities of a Martial Artist include discipline over
the mind, control over the breath, and a strong will. But how
many of us are teaching meditation as a way to help our students
achieve these most important results? Linking meditation to the
practice of martial arts is not a radical new idea. Many ancient
masters practiced meditation as an integral part of their art
and taught their students to do the same. If living a peaceful,
happy and healthy life was the goal, meditation was the perfect
tool to achieve the best results.
In
today's world, this essential component of martial arts practice
is being all but ignored. the term "meditation" has a
broad meaning in our culture, and many people don't understand
its relation to martial arts. So, let us explore the differing
attitudes about the subject. Meditation is often viewed as a
deeply spiritual practice, something that might occur in the
halls of a monastery or convent. Others see it as simply as
exercise to discipline the mind. Unfortunately, it today's pop
culture, meditation has become a somewhat flaky metaphysical
catchall phrase.
In the
lessons in mindfulness program, the meditation techniques are
not based on religious beliefs or rituals. We refer to
meditation as a technique that helps the practitioner control
his or her mind. By learning to control thoughts, one is better
able to deal with stress, tension, and anxiety as well as
negative feelings like anger, fear and frustration. Teaching a
student effective fighting techniques without teaching him how
to control his mind and emotions could be dangerous. After all,
we first learn to control ourselves, and then a situation.
Without mental and emotional discipline and self-control, a
"would be victim" after gaining control of a
situation, but completely enraged, might seek to severely punish
his attacker.
Many
contemporary masters include meditation in their own practice,
but have not stressed its importance to their students. Why? In
my opinion, there are several possible reasons.
1. Most of us primarily teach children. Although they need
self-control and
discipline, physical practice and concentration are sufficient
for them.
2. Some teachers have a concern that teaching meditation may
appear too religious or cult-like. I submit that it is our
responsibility to better explain the purpose and benefits of
meditation. Remember, people fear what they do not understand.
3. Some newer and less experienced school owners may have never
learned this important component of practice. To truly capture
and retain the adult market, we need to offer adults
the real benefits of martial arts - both mental and physical.
Practicing
meditation for just a few minutes a day leads to a happier, more
stress-free life. Learning the skill of controlling the mind
empowers a student to be more effective in dealing with
day-to-day life. Students begin to become masters over their
reactions. It is through greater mindfulness of their own
thoughts and behaviors that mothers become better moms, fathers
become better dads, and employee becomes a better employee, an
employer becomes a better employer, a friend becomes a better
friend and a Martial Artist becomes a better Martial Artist.
